Sheol

Sheol - Hebrew word meaning "the unseen or hidden place." When this Hebrew word was translated into Greek, as found in the Septuagint and New Testament, the word "Hades" was chosen (but not to be confused with the fanciful and fantastic tales of the mythical Greek underworld "Hades" of the same name). (See HELL.)
